Merry Christmas from Cecilie!

Merry Christmas from Cecilie!

CecilieWhen entering the colorful and quirky studio of print and textile designer Cecilie Elisabeth Rudolph you immediately fall into the Christmas mood. The great working table in the middle of her studio is covered with garlands, ribbons, drawings and gift wrapping paper in the most refreshing colours - reflecting her colorful personality and international style.

Last year Cecilie came home from London and when we saw her fantastic work we immediately asked her to design the motif for this year’s Stilleben Christmas tote as well as a magic gift wrapping kit.

Candy inspiration: The filigran inspired motif for the tote and kit is originally drawn by hand, dot by dot, and is an assemblage of Cecilie’s own Christmas associations - from Christmas stars, snowflakes and bows to Christmas trees and hearts. “It has been a very meditative process, to make dot after dot creating a pattern. It took me many many hours and this pattern is really created out of love,” Cecilie says. Actually the inspiration took its beginning in an old Gustav Klimt gift wrapping paper and the old Danish candy store and factory Sømods Bolcher where Cecilie collected striped hard candy in irresistible colours. Colours that are now repeated in the gift wrapping kit, which is made especially for Stilleben.

Rudolph - the red nose reindeer: Take a closer look at the Stilleben Christmas tote and you will find a small reindeer hidden in the letter “O” in Cecilie’s surname Rudolph. This is a funny feature referring to the red nose reindeer Rudolph, which will undoubtedly bring a smile on your face. “In my childhood my family was always named the Winter family. Our surname is Rudolph, my mother owned a snow removal company and my father sold Christmas trees, so I really enjoyed creating this,” she says smiling.

Miss gift wrapping:
In general Cecilie is a great fan of gift wrapping paper and through the years she has gained  an impressive collection. “I never throw out good looking paper which is why I have a great collection hidden in my drawers. Each Christmas we actually have a gift wrapping contest in my family where the best wrapping is awarded. I think the gift wrapping is an important part of a present - it’s a way to tell the receiver that you really did your best to make an effort out of it.”

The gift wrapping kit is made in high quality paper and printed sustainably in Denmark. The kit also includes two assorted gift tags and 4 meter of assorted ribbon in beautiful colours, so you can make each present unique.

Cecilie holds a degree from Central Saint Martins in London in Textile Design with a specialism in Print Design, where she has lived and worked for five years. She has worked for clients such as Georg Jensen Damask, Conditori La Glace,  Sticks 'N' Sushi, Fiskars and ELLE.
